The availability of equipment is 100% the reason it's more expensive. Less available equipment the less market competition. Less competition the higher the prices the mfg can charge.

I would wait for HDR. If you keep buying a monitor every time a new feature comes out, you're going to have to buy one every year. I usually wait 2-3 years before I upgrade.
