I got it for 899 refurb and a 124 dollar 4 year warranty. With 5% off chase pay this quarter that's sub 1K.

I face the same issue. For the price of a decently good 75, I can get 2 equal or better quality 65. For this year, 65 seems to be the sweet spots.

I'd guess a new model would start around $1599-$1699 for a 65 inch and then drop quickly within a few months to the $1299 range, just like this one did. No one will know pricing until next week or...

IOW, will the 2018 be similar prices as the 2017 are now? Or will they be a few hundred more and then slowly drop over the next year?

Yes it should be a big increase in performance since they really haven't changed their tech in 2 years. Also HDMI 2.1 is coming this year which has huge improvements for HDR, 4k, and gaming

I think I'm going to pick one of these up. I was tempted by the $799 refurb deal but it was too much of an investment in case something went wrong.

The picture quality is lower. For comparable or better picture quality, gotta go 900 or above.
