Look at the Akitio Node as well. Holds full size cards and works really well. I’ve been using one with a nuc skull canyon and it works great.

I mean nothing stopping you but I wouldn't. For mining I'd recommend going with a non-itx cards with bigger heatsink and at least dual fan config and better airflow..

Yes, TB 3 is implemented over USB 3.1 Type- C GEN 2. And it will not work with TB2 because it has been implemented over Display Port.
