Try power line first. If it works, it will work much better than a range extender. However, depending on your wiring it may not work at all.

They need to be on the same CIRCUIT BREAKER LINE (I think the technical term is PHASE). Many circuit breaker panels have two lines/phases. something like: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12...

300 ft of good cat 6a cabling vs 1 foot of powerline connection. The 300 ft of cat 6a will be much faster. More than just length matters.
