No the fire boxes gen 1 and 2 do have wired network and usb suport, it is the gen 3 ( 2 inch square dongle on a leash) that has no ports on it and of course sticks, however they have a $25 adapter ...

You are probably referring to the fire tv which does not have a ethernet on the latest verison. A big fail cause not everyone has a high speed wifi network at home and this will not let you play...
