I think the first guy is right . I had a blinking check engine on a cylinder misfire caused by a bad spark plug . Impala 2004 code P0306 .

Yah it's like a lifter in the engine cam. They also called hydraulic lifters. In my 98 f150 one froze and threw the roller off.. thus couldn't fire the cylinder

I agree with the other user that suggested Torque pro. I use it to monitor the battery voltage on my hybrid. You just need to find the pid to monitor and set up the programming. Check forums.

Engine shake? Is it a vacuum leak? Is with off throttle or just pressing down throttle initially? Might be the idle air valve?

Wrong. Check engine light only blinks if the misfire is bad enough to cause harm to the catalytic converter. If it's a slight misfire it won't blink.
