That is not true. Optane is a usable drive. You can also raid optane drives, so u could in theory get enough storage to do a windows install on it or just use the single 1 for a crazy nice Linux boot...

Was hoping to pick up an inexpensive CPU with this for a cheap build. To work with octane you need 7th gen intel cpu? Most inexpensive 7th generation CPU is what? $200? Pass on this :-(

Its a cheaper alternative. It can make a 2 TB 7200 RPM drive feel a lot more like a 2 TB SSD, without the ridiculous price of a 2TB SSD

I have a HTPC. The OS drive is a SSD and I have a 3TB spinner with an old SSD as an Intel RST cache. It works just about as well as my SSD directly for gaming.

For PiHole, it uses very little resource, I actually run it on a Seagate dockstar with only 128MB memory. The same Dockstar is also an NFS server for two Rpi3Bs root file system.
