From the golden days of PC speakers. I would hang on to those. I doubt this would be an improvement unless you have a specific need for 5.1.

Shouldn't these have grills that cover the speakers with them? I see the holes in the front where the grills should attach but i see no grills for them?

They are refurbs for a reason. They sound mediocre at best. If you have to do a return at Newegg prepare to pay with an arm and a leg. Monoprice is a better option.
