Had similar when the kids were a little younger, no way to clean the spout mechanism. I would stay away or use for water only and watch for mold. They didn't leak at all.

another problem is that the spout isn't covered in any way, so it's easy for it to get dirty (e.g., they will get dirty when kids drop them on the floor, put their dirty fingers on the lid, etc..)....

These didn't last particularly long for us. That white trim piece around the button pops out all the time and eventually breaks. Just my experience with 2 kids using them in elementary school.

bought it $7.00 in December. My favorite thing about this bottle is it has no small parts! There is only the body of the bottle and the top and those are fairly easy to clean.
