They may not be ideal but some extra rigging with foam spacers or such and they should be fine. At the same time isn't it fairly easy to just strap a SUP onto a flat rack?

Be careful with these racks. Cheap and functional for short trips but potentially dangerous. Each rack only has one connection point to the roof cross bar so at highway speeds the cross winds rock...

I've been using these for about five years. The racks are strong and if a kayak flew off it was probably a failure to tie down the kayak or the racks were not installed or clamped down correctly.

I ended up buying a full Yakima set with the Mako style kayak rack, two crossbars, the towers, and a bike rack off craigslist for $250 a few years back. Easily saved over $500 than buying them new....

I have one of these and the bolts are plenty strong enough to handle a 10' kayak. I also run a line from the front of the boat to the roof rack and another from the back to the rack to keep them...

Yeah I'd probably replace all of the bolts and nuts with higher grade. Pretty cheap upgrade. That review doesn't say where it broke. If he had it properly tied down it should have never left...

Works for 2 kayaks on my small utility trailer, I just mounted 2 metal bars directly across the trailer and mount these on it. best thing is, 4 bolts and it comes off lol. super handy.
