8-10 years feels like fraud. Battery shelf live is usually shorter. Besides, battery cost is about $1 plus change. $10 per year is cheap insurance.

it could be - but make sure that water puddle will not be deeper than 1/8" I think that 1/4" would be pushing your luck.

I would say no. I think these get wet once and then they are done. By wet I'm talking properly wet (e.g. a broken pipe) and not a test (I get my fingers wet and touch the metal sensors).
