No. If don't have "split wiring" already you can use the existing wires for the light. This simply means that the light and the fan will be controlled by the same switch on the wall.

Mine came with a 15 year warranty, which doesn't mean they won't fail but makes it seem more isolated.

I have 3 of these and put 100w equivalent LEDs in with not fitment issue. One thing, there isn't a spot for mounting wireless receivers above the fan. I ended up mounting next to the base against...
