I thought the same thing too when I set mine up, but it came with a shorter middle piece. I swapped out the longer one for the the shorter one, and angled it back so its really close to my mirror...

Probably going to get a blendmount and mount it to the rear view mirror and then use the mirror tap wires.
For the dash cam, I will mount it using the included sticky tape and just mount it...

The mirror wire gauge was designed for a certain load and adding a device increases that load. I would suggest getting a fuse tap kit with a thicker gauge wire which will also use it's own separate...
