I can most definitely mount to a tripod, it has quick release attachments that go on the sides of the camera just like the Peak. That being said I don't carry my camera around a lot so I don't care...

Yes this setup is quite heavy; however, the original Slide made it even worst...it's so bulky and the "rubberized" neck part is just too wide and stiff..very uncomfortable to wear for like 15 mins....
