Just got mine, and they looked brand new in the box. My guess is they were new and not refurb'd/returns based on them coming in new original box, no "ear wax" etc how they were wrapped and boxed up...

Yup, I was pretty impressed for $12 shipped. Blocked out most of the noise of a tower fan running full speed next to me. I didn't test it for calls since I don't talk much on my phone.

It is active noise cancellation. Works on reducing certain white noises like road noise while you're driving.

I owned it for a year. I won't call it active noise cancelation, cuz all it does is tuned up the volume for you so you hear less noise from background.
