The current 12" MacBook has the same CPU scores as the i5 2015 13" MacBook Pro. I never hear anyone calling that machine "underpowered", especially for a student.

The MBP is obviously way better with 30 times the storage and 4 times the ram, as well as the processor, but this MBA is $750/$650 with an edu coupon and the latest 15" MBP costs around $4000
