If your rebate was through Newegg's rebate handler I would recommend reading the SD thread about them going out of business and how to contact NewEgg directly to receive your money.

MacOS is based off FreeBSD, it would really strange if it didn't work with Linux. My guess is the vendor only had Windows and Mac computers in their office to test and troubleshoot with.
