You could hit a deer or a Mormon on the road. Live traffic on a GPS in Utah would reduce that possibility.

My 2cents. My new car has apple carplay and it gets me where I need to. Though I have used tomtom for years and the time of arrival is spot on. If traffic was detected it told me a faster route. ...

How does TomTom's software compare to Google Maps or Waze?

I thought I read and it should be only for $14.39.

Totally agreed. Bought a LG Fiesta for $10 from a SD deal (5.5" 720p) and run Igo on it. It makes a better stand alone GPS imho and it is also way cheaper.

Phone has an A-GPS uses cell towers to receive "time to fix" and triangulation with only 2 satellite available. Standalone will try to retrieve min. 7 satellites if I remember correctly on my old...

I didn't think the LT maps were transferable with the unit, so I am not sure if you could updated. Often the cost of the updated maps may not make it worth it.

Regardless of the phone vs GPS debate, this price is terrible. I wouldn't pay more than $75 for a GPS unit these days, even with lifetime maps and RDS traffic.

Why would you need to even buy live traffic updates to "navigate country roads in Utah forests" ?

Dedicated GPS units like this one are very useful for long road trips and areas without cell phone network, but I wouldn't pay this price. Get a cheaper old model or used one on craigslist/ebay and...

My wife recently went on a roadtrip to Canada with her GF. They were roaming on Sprint and went to some kind of park. Her friend accidently closed the google maps app (I tell my wife to use waze but...

Just my 2 cents based on my experience using phone as a GPS on a long trip... I needed to keep my phone on the dashboard for viewing and also for a reliable GPS signal. Also keep the phone...

Getting a dedicated GPS over cell phone is more of a personal preference. You may need/want to use your phone while driving (hopefully for important stuff), the phone may not be always infront of...

To download maps, traffic info, etc. in real time. You can always download an off-line section of your current area or an entire state/country map in some navigation apps, and it’s extremely helpful...

It's not required unless you're using your cell phone as the GPS device. This TomTom uses the cell phone to retrieve traffic info, but it's not required for use. But honestly I haven't used my...

Why cell coverage required for gps?
Post #118060359 added 07-24-2018 8:56 AM by slickdeal_hokage in Deal Talk
True, especially when you on a road trip.

True, but it depends on cell coverage, which is getting better, but not 100%. Offline maps help, but aren’t as dependable as this device.

I know not everyone likes to use their phone but GPS navigator sales has been declining ever since your cell phone can do pretty much the same thing plus many maps can tell you real time traffic info...
