I have two of these and they are perfectly acceptable and look nicer than they cost. Yes they would be better with backing, but I have two in my living room for books, decor, speakers, records, etc....

Yes. IKEA ones are decent, and definitely better than these. I actually like the BH&G ones best ($68 for the 8-cube). I have a 4-cube, 8-cube, and 12-cube and they're all quite solid.
