Before Freesync and G-sync, V-sync has been around in ages. It is a setting started to first pop up in 3D games when "graphics accelerator cards" were in. And SLI back then didn't even existed yet....

Unless you look for it and have REALLY good vision you cant see it. I think your confusing shuddering and frame drop. Which is noticeable and G-Sync / FreeSync helps to reduce. The user wont see it....
