When I get my TCL TV I'm just going to disable the Roku smart tv, and use my Firetv Stick. The Roku UI is just awful.

Side loading apps isn't hacking. I've yet to hear of a fire TV being bricked from installing an app. You might be thinking of rooting, which can have unintended consequences if done incorrectly.

Why is that? I guess you could hack it to get a lot of other things but then you run the risk of bricking the TV as the guy above was hinting at. I would even be afraid of even side loading apps...

Fire TV is the preferred choice for a lot of people. Roku has a big fan base but many others prefer Fire TV for various other reasons.

I agree. I like getting a Roku tv because I like the Roku tv’s interface for ota, and I already know it has a remote control app. Then I stick the fire tv in the back. Especially if you sideload...

This may be true of proprietary smart TVs, but I have the TCL with Roku built in and it's every bit as fast as my dedicated Roku box.
