if you can see through the filter, the bad stuff just goes right through, you’re wasting $1.50, as opposed to spending $5 wisely, on two filters of some quality.

Yep. I have two filters to change. I do it the first day of every month and it costs me about $1.50. Never had any issues.

A 1" thick filter should be changed every month. Buying a thicker more material filter doesn't change that. It just creates more workload for your furnace
