For the typical user of mesh network at home, I would think it is due to the fact that they can't get an ethernet to another location. Tri-band still offers more channel options for normal routers...

I’ve had these for 3 months and they are fantastic. No dead spots in my 2500 sq/ft home. Even great reception in my garage and yard. Really improved reception of my ring cameras. No complaints.
