Yes but in ~ 2 years of owning it, it's not a bother at all. To clarify how this works all one needs to do is look at the manual and water flow. Hot and cold water come from your supply (wall)...

5 year manufacturer’s warranty. Reviews are pretty good, so probably your bad luck that you received a defective item. You should be able to return it or get a replacement.
