People are confusing TDP limits with power usage. TDP describes cooling requirements. 150W TDP means it needs a cooling system capable of dispersing 150W of heat generation, and also means that...

Better off buying an AMD EPYC Rome 7302P and build the system with DDR4 ECC at its standing price just to see real AMD performance in anything you can toss at it.

Considering I paid $200 for a 1920X over a year ago. Yeah this is a bad deal. My 3800X is only slightly slower in video encoding and fasfer in games. So I can only imagine what this would preform...

Agreed - but for the first time ever thought I swapped my 1700 to a 3700x on an asus prime pro - it was great to take advantage of this AMD perk for the first time even though I've been buying AMD...

When you add in the cost of the motherboard and requisite memory - you're spending about as much as a Ryzen 3rd Gen 8-Core 3700X with a mid-tier motherboard. This is for a very niche consumer who...

AMD has advanced so much in the last few generations of processors, I see no reason to buy this even with the huge discount. The nicely priced AMD Ryzen 5 3600 with only 6 cores beats this on all...

It has uses, old or not. Could make a media server or similar, perhaps a bunch of vms? It's a good value of you know what you need.

It is dead but it still is the only affordable platform to use motherboards with more than 32 pcie lanes. 64 lanes is a lot and useful to those who can leverage that edge case.

The only advantage the 8-core Threadripper has over the standard Ryzen 1700 series is more PCI-E lanes and support for quad channel memory. Most people would be better off with a Ryzen 2 (even...

A Ryzen 2700 (non-x) is $159, uses what, 3x less power and is matching in performance, especially when OC'd a little? I would under no circumstances get this CPU.

180w under load right, what does it do idle? 13w? If you need the lanes for HBA cards, other than an older XEON, this is a decent choice for that application.

Wow. I remember it felt like a year ago this was released at $999. Crazy how technology moved so fast. Sad to hear the TR4 platform is not doing well.
