No, I wouldn't bother with a backup. By the time you need a new modem, there will be other modems to get at this price.

The 6141 supports 343Mbps, so either spectrum doesn't have it configured right or something is wrong with the modem.

It depends on if your current modem isn't hitting your plan speed. If your current modem hits the max plan speeds, you'll gain nothing.

Not according to the spec, but the cable providers config file can limit speeds based on what they want to support on a particular modem.
