For less than 500GB, it makes no sense to separate OS and data anymore since SSDs are relatively cheap now. The key is to always backup and backup and backup. Restoring 500GB on SSD takes minutes....

Maybe it's an apples and oranges thing. A drive failure may be different than rewrite exhaustion issue. I don't know, since I've never had an SSD stop working.
