Not true, Dewalt has a 18V stempack to 20V slidepack battery adapter. 20V is the same thing as 18V (20v is just marketing to make it look like it's a higher voltage when it's not) so all it's doing...

As someone who has plenty of Makita 18v tools and 18v batteries, I'm guessing if purchasing this, I would also have to purchase 12v batteries? I Wonder if they make an adapter like DeWalt seems to...

That would be slick indeed. But this is about 2 lbs lighter so there is that. 12v weighs 4 lb 3 oz with 4ah battery 18v weights 5 lb 8 Oz with battery
