Yes... You can either use ATT prepaid SIM that comes with the box, or ATT mvno like cricket, h30, red pocket, etc. But, her ownphone should be unlocked, wouldn't it be cheaper to just get service...

Just tried with a Euro SIM which uses AT&T in the US...it said "Network Locked" when I inserted the SIM, and it won't unlock.

No, you need to buy a 1 year refill and after that 1 year they will. HSN phones are a "promotion" so they are not eligible for unlock until you do another year of regular service.

It’s not active. Got this phone to try that deal and see what it can emulate. It can handle NDS, PS1, N64, and under nicely. Replaceable battery is a bonus long-term.
