wtf? what type of furnace filter are you using? some sort of hepa filter? that's not good for the furance. HVAC people will tell you to use normal furnace filters.

Yes, you can absolutely use tap water in these sonic humidifiers. I have several. I have been using tap water in them for years, no "white dust" on anything ever. I also have good clean well water....
