It's not the humidifier that needs cleaning, it's the entire room. It leaves white dust everywhere if you use tap water.

I've definitely noticed white crusting with using tap water in my humidifier, but I've been having good results with using filtered water. Not getting the crusting and don't have to buy distilled.

Ultra sonic needs "clean" water. Distilled $$$. Most tap and well water is "hard" mineral rich and will produce hard to clean white, powdery dust all over everything.
