The fine adjustment sucks and strips out. The base clamps (tightens) down out of square. The spindle lock strips out. The speed controls go bad. My 2¢. I have 2 of these. Never again.

For a first router the 616 is fine but does not have a speed adjust. Accepting both 1/4 and 1/2 bits I would think you might find the 1 3/4 hp motor a bit under-powered for some of the larger 1/2...
