Very marginal... The 5 YO will probably be fine as you can sit them in front of a screen for the 9 hours. The 2 year old might be, but probably not. Fly to LA, much safer. I'd go to Legoland.

Visited big island and maui/ohau on two separate occasions in last two years. Stayed in Waikiki in ohau and traffic just kills it, beaches are packed. Maui was calmer. Stayed in Hilo when visited...

I went to Kona in 2015 in late October. It was one of the most relaxing vacations I ever had. It's not nearly as crowded as Oahu. I can't wait to go back.
