I already had the new GPU. I just wanted crashing to stop and didn't mind replacing a 2011 machine in 2019. Eight and a half years was a good run.

well, i guess that's how it goes for you. I would personally have replace the MB for cheap since the performance is the same (for you) with either CPU and invest more into GPU. Just my 2 cents

Yeah, but the wife game me the "thumbs-up" on budgeting a full-rebuild last fall, so I went for the Ryzen 5 3600 @ Micro Center w/ mobo combo discount. Plus, I have NO IDEA what the random crashes...

The Devs themselves have said this game is in rudimentary form. This after 8 years of developement. Their first game was released with an insane amount of bugs in it, and it stayed that way.

There aren't any games that a Sandy Bridge i5-2500K can't run well. I just upgraded from my Sandy Bridge last fall. There's no notable difference with a spankin' new Ryzen 5--just that my motherboard...
