It's not really $1 for 3 years. If you already have 3 years of Xbox Live Gold, then ya, it's just $1.
I bought 3 years of Gold and converted to GPU. Cost me little under $150 for 3 years.

I've got GPU till March 2022. What can I do to take advantage of this or will my GPU just automatically change into GPU + EA? Can I add another year then apply for EA/GPU combo?

I've been earning about $20 on average per month doing all of this. Not much work and is fun. I actually played many good games I wouldn't have normally played just to get the points.
