Thanks OP! The wife and I just moved into our first home. The basement has drop ceilings with fluorescent light. We bought a bunch from the local lowes to replace the old ones.

That depends on what LED replacement you purchased. Refer to the manufacturer documentation As for if you have magnetic ballast or not, refer to the OP instructions on how to tell or if you need...

32W T8 fluorescent bulbs put out around 2,800 lumens. These 15W bulbs only put out 1,800 lumens. So the answer is yes. they will save money, but not so much due to LED vs fluorescent efficiency. I...

So I tried LEDs in my garage fixtures a few years ago and they didn't work. I had other projects to do so just put a fluorescent in there and moved on with my life. Does that likely mean I have a...

Not exactly sure what you have but using an led panel light would probably be your best bet. https://www.1000bulbs.com/category/led-panel/ Or putting drywall up and doing some of the new canless...

With a cursory Amazon search, i.e. bad research. I used up all my energy on the OP. 😂 Out of curiosity, what kind of fixture would you replace kitchen fluorescents with? I ask because I considered...

I was just thinking about shop lights. I forget some people have these in their kitchen. Personally if I had them in my kitchen, I would get a different fixture. But decent LED shop lights are...

Not by a long shot. I bought a new electronic ballast for about $15 on Amazon for a 4-bulb fixture in my kitchen. Replacing that entire thing can cost hundreds of dollars, plus the work of the actual...

If you had to replace ballasts too, wouldn't it be better to just buy a whole new light fixture?

It adds up when you have 2-4 together.

While I don't have a problem with ballast bypass and agree that the process is easy (I have that setup in my garage), there are advantages to wiring in an electronic ballast. The biggest is that the...

Don't mess with replacing the ballasts if your existing ballast is not compatible. Eliminate the ballast and go with ballast bypass LED tubes. Very easy to re-wire your fluorescent fixture to use...

Now if someone can put a link to the right fixture ... It will be a complete deal.

Yes they use just about half the power of a regular T8 fluorescent. 15w vs 32w. +/- 2 watts due to the ballast factor. The quality of light is much better, better CRI.

I used this kind of replacement in an apartment where I didn't want to mess with the ballasts.

Plug and play provided they already have an electronic ballast.

yes but the ballast is not going to be pushing as much out so yes you save power. You don't save as much as without a ballast since ballasts themselves have an efficiency rating but for a plug and...

I don't have exact numbers but yes you will save power, lots if they are on all day, every day. You can argue that these may put out much higher "quality" light too.

Anyone familiar with electric explain if these will save any power at all compared to regular bulbs? Won't you still need to power the ballast?
