My guess is that since this TV is priced higher than budget TVs with similar specs (TCL 6 series and Hisense 8 series) they probably had lower sales numbers than they anticipated for this model. ...

That depends on how much you value the warranty and who provides it (manufacturer or third party aftermarket).
