To answer my own question. CrystalDiskInfo shows Trim support for this drive. Apparently SMR drives are known to show Trim support on CrystalDiskInfo. "What does TRIM on an HDD mean?" from...

You were right. I just received the drive and It's a WD60EDAZ but how did you find out it's a SMR. I'm not finding this information.

Costco has 5TD Seagate Portable Hard drive for $89 after a $35 off. Does not need a separate power cord to connect, just the USB and ready to work... I would prefer to get that.

I paid $130 for the 8TB and it's a good value (especially since it's already saved my butt when my SSD died). The only drawback is the regular quiet click the drive makes when idle. This is normal...

From some quick searching it sounds like this specific drive contains a WD60EDAZ, a SMR drive. I'd personally wait until the 8tb drives show up again at $130.

to each their own. if photos are all you need to store (and you don't take a ton of videos), then a subscription model might be fine. it's still not a bad practice to keep a hard copy as backup as...

The easystore is smaller in size, might be important if you are carrying this a lot. Also the easystore does not require an a/c plug just the USB.

This is a desktop drive that requires a power adapter. Its a 3.5" drive inside....the Easystore you got sounds like a 2.5" drive which only needs USB power.

Shoot. I just bought a WD Easystore 5TB for $99. Arriving today. Should I return and get this? Aside from additional 1TB, is My Book more / less/ as reliable?

And Newegg allows for checkout via PayPal, so I was able to use that and my Amex Platinum to get an extra $30 cash back on the transaction. Ended up being 2 for $169.98 - an extremely good deal....
