Yes you could. It does not get hot, but the color temperature of the light is 9,000 - 12,000K. That's way too blue for back lighting a picture. I make my own backlit frames using 5000K LED strips...

I still have my old school light box, about 12” x 18” x 7”. It’s heavy, and uses fluorescent bulbs. Still works great but takes up a ton of space compared to something like this.

I bought something like this for my kid. Used it once, not even sure where it is now. It is pretty bright though and if you are looking to trace stuff, it actually does a decent job.
