Even the reduced rate is probably a lot faster than your internet connection unless it is FTTH or T1. So, yeah, I'd say it is just you.

The second concern I had were people's reviews about this product dropping connections often, particularly when the device had aged a few months. I haven't experienced any such problems yet.

Yes, this should work with ANY router as a straight-up extender, but OneMesh mode only works with other TP-Link devices that support OneMesh.

I bought that range extender a while back. It’s not that good. It has to be close to my router to grab a decent signal. It’s located about 20 feet away from my Fios router and the signal is weak....
