Too much mud slinging. It seems pretty simple...the 12 gauge is on sale at a good price. It can be used in wall. There is no need to use 14 gauge when you can use 12 gauge at a good price....

That's actually not a bad idea. UTP cables use twisted pairs to mitigate interference, they are usually resilient during installation, and being Category 6 suggests they have frequency ratings.

12awg doesn't fit well in distributed auto gear, and you need much bigger holes in your structural lumber for larger bundles on wire.
