You may need to clarify here, the switch in the OP shouldn't have an IP, it's unmanaged, are you using something else, and/or is that the powerline device you mentioned? Generally mixing subnets...

You are correct, and you should not need any manual configuration. If your power is up, your router will assign the IPs. But say your power (and router) goes down - the IPs assigned on your UPS...
