these require the equivalent of a matchstick strike with the end cap (don't lose the end caps!). Simple indirect heat from the sun/hot car isn't going to set it off, you need sparks.

dont look at these as a road flare, look at these as an emergency source of fire. that's why.i buy them. 15 minute windproof fire starter is good while camping.
