Can anyone recommend an alarm that can not only detect carbon monoxide but also detect gas? It doesn't necessary has to be combined, gas only alarm will work, too.

First alerts ones are normally two pack for 30$ at Costco, if you have membership and not in a rush to jump on these. Although, I do see these are 10 year warranty vs 7 from first alert (I think).

Mr Buddy Heaters cannot produce carbon monoxide. They are catalyst heaters and not parabolic.
