Depends on who is making it. Random brand charcoal should be avoided. Because they can be too coarse. They work because you're literally sanding the stain away. But that also damage the enamel....

Easy ... I've tried a few different types and haven't noticed anything. You think it's doing something because you are spitting out black stuff but the charcoal isn't really do anything worth-while.
