Putting VZ sim activated in different phone in a locked TF is asking for trouble. They know the IMEI is registered to different phone & can pull service. It may work but no way to know for how long.

You ONLY need to activate in another phone, IF the phones present sim is Verizon, and you are trying to activate a new VERIZON sim.
Otherwise you can activate in the phone it'll be used in.

I think that could work. But a year ago, it was believed one has to activate with the sim card that came with the locked TF phone, for it to count as activated. But maybe using a separate sim + IMEI...
