I've had an Atom and "upgraded" to the THX789. If you're a hobbyist, it certainly isn't a bad idea to get the SP200 over the Atom. The SP200 provides more features, power, and balanced connections....

How does the sp200 compare to the atom? I bought my dad an atom for Christmas, and i think it sounds great, even on my he560. Just wondering if i should go for more power.

The O2 dac/amp combo is a good deal at $99 (or $89 if you do the coupon trick). If I already had a good dac I would get THX, but since I don't I'm really thinking about the O2. ...

You could and it would work but its gonna amplify whatever quality comes out of your onboard dac and its gonna make good things better and also bad things worse. Typically you would want to replace...
