Smr isn't bad if you're not writing all the time. Otherwise it will wear out faster than cmr. Writing speed is really really bad tho. It isn't suitable for raid work load. For the record i have...

Smr will wear out pretty in a raid configuration. The heavy writing in the raid will kill the drive. Go ask any data hoarder on Reddit using raid.

Warranty doesn't mean anything if data is lost. I know all are supposed to take backups but most are guilty as anyone else. Fast speed and internal heat kills the drives. For performance YES, go for...

It’s getting harder to find EZRZ drives, especially on sale. I bought 4 from Best Buy 4 months ago. Those were manufactured March 2021. I was waiting for someone to buy some from Best Buy this week...

The only place still selling EZRZ drives is Western Digital, where the 3TB is $70 and 4TB is $100. Might as well buy the Red Plus 4TB for $85.

The bigger issue is they secretly switched to SMR and didn’t lower the price, the CMR drives (EZRZ) were the same price until they stopped making them. They’re free to do this of course but doesn’t...

There's a reason they only put SMR on the cheap drives and you can write essays while you grow a beard shaking your fist at the son, but the fact remains this is true.
