Yes. On the refurbs the sim card is IN the phone, so take it out and toss it. Or use the phone until trade-in time. Up to you.

Use paypal on checkout to make returns easier. I believe they may hit you for the bundled plan cost. Check the older XR threads for more info. Sorry, can't recall off the top of my head
