The temperature never gets to a point that you can sear well. Check out Napoleon grills for a better performer. Be prepared to pay for it though.

So what performs better? I want a good gas grill. Also couldn’t you just get thicker grates like cast iron grates and heat them up longer?

They don't get anywhere near hot enough to do any real searing. I gave my E-410 away because I got sick of the performance.

They show 322 but when you scan it on the hand scanner they are 278

I've got an original Spirit 3 burner from 2012. Still works great. These had a 7 year warranty on the burners and grates and Weber replaced mine at the 6 year mark free of charge.
