Then you should know that the last 40 years no car were made to use SAE fasteners.

I am auto tech, 40yrs exp., and I work on everything, so I need every size and configuration of a socket that you can imagine! Swivels, deeps, deep swivels, 6pt, 12pt, etc., in standard and metric!

Pre 1980 American car, you mean?
Post #154286611 added 03-30-2022 1:25 PM by handel in Deal Talk
Yeah, drives me crazy they keep selling combo sae/metric sets. I like having just Metric and have them in my cars. Unless you have a really old pre 2000 American cars they're all Metric.

What airplanes?! Never had one, but I never needed SAE in the US for anything else.

Tons of things in the US, from household fasteners, to airplanes, to industrial equipment are still SAE.

Who needs SAE these days?

I'd bite at SAE but not metric.

This is overkill for the average person. I'd recommend a Tekton set if you want a cheap/reliable socket and wrench set. Craftsman, Husky, and Kobalt are also good alternatives.

That difference is quite literally splitting hairs and is a substitution that I regularly make. In fact, you'll often find 3/4" tools in my metric sets if I have a higher quality or lesser worn 3/4"...

The crappiest part is that 19mm is almost exactly 3/4".

In the post I responded to, someone said 14mm is basically 9/16". They are actually a bit different which would make the substitution tight one way and loose the other. If you're paying this much...

Obviously you have never used a 14mm on a 9\16. It's actually slightly more snug then a 9\16 (as shown in your chart).

72-tooth 5 degree swing non-flex head 3/8 ratchet with some skipped sockets for $100 and a warranty center 1000 miles away, what a great deal. Add mentions “switch”, “full steel”, and “fine tooth”....

Almost pulled the trigger, but no 14 mm is a no go for me

Dewalt has a more extensive compact set at my costco for $25 on sale, usually $30. Mine have stood up fine for 2 years

Lifetime warranty is nice and all, but I'd rather pay for a quality set the first time to lessen the chance of malfunction in the middle of a project/repair. Tools never break when they are not...

Is a metric set more useful / practical, or a "standard" set?
Post #154279111 added 03-30-2022 6:22 AM by Rebound in Deal Talk
I paid $160 for a similar Snap-On set. Why? Because it was XMas time and I wanted to reward myself. I have a very complete US-made Craftsman ratchet set, but the ratchet, extensions and sockets...

I'm sure that there are a thousand other 3/8" socket sets that can get the job done, but not that are this compact and high quality. There is nothing Quinn has that is even close to this set.
